UNE 58451 – Forklift Truck Operators

UNE 58451:2016 establishes the minimum requirements that a training programme for forklift truck operators must meet, as well as the knowledge that trainers must impart so that the use of this type of machinery is safe for people and facilities.

The forklift truck sector has developed this standard with the aim of achieving certification for training organisations, which want to distinguish themselves by complying with the requirements of the standard and guaranteeing the security of the licences they issue to operators.

It is a practical and effective tool, both for the company and for the worker, which contributes to the latter being able to carry out their work in a safer way, thus avoiding damage to his health and that of his colleagues.

UNE 58451 Standard Certification with EQA

The certification process of the UNE 58451 Standard with EQA usually lasts between 5 and 6 months, from the time the company submits the Certification Application until the certificate is awarded.

We advise you to apply for certification 3 months before the expected start date of the process.

Goal of UNE 58451

The aim of the UNE 58451 standard, on the training of forklift truck operators, is to define the contents, conditions and evaluation criteria for the training of operators of forklift trucks up to 10 Tm nominal capacity, their supervisors and trainers, to enable them to use this equipment safely and responsibly, and to comply with the requirements of current legislation.

With the publication of the standard, Spain comes closer to the rest of European countries that have much more defined regulations for this type of activity.

The standard is aimed at:

  • Promoting the adoption of integrated processes in order to provide the management of services to meet the requirements of both our clients and the market itself.
  • Measuring the understanding of our “best practices”, objectives, benefits and potential issues within our Management System.
  • Helping organisations to generate revenue, or to generate cost-effective costs or benefits within the IT service professional pathway that is delivered to customers.

Accredited training providers must be companies whose main activity is training, or manufacturers and suppliers of forklift trucks and which accredit personnel and facilities to carry out such training.

Minimum requirements to be met by these bodies:

  • Suitable facilities.
  • Suitable equipment.
  • Trainers who meet the requirements.
  • Have certified quality assurance procedures for training activities (ISO 9001 standard, etc.).
