WfCP – Wineries for Climate Protection
Wineries for Climate Protection (WfCP) is a national scheme, specific to the wine sector, that will measure the performance of wineries in four specific areas: greenhouse gas reduction, waste reduction, water management and energy efficiency.
Advantages of WfCP certification
- The right to use a seal that will accredit them as a sustainable supplier in the eyes of their clients, buyers, consumers and the rest of the agents in the wine value chain.
- It explicitly states the wineries’ commitment to climate protection.
- It is a tool that helps to calculate the real commitment of each winery to sustainability in an independent, measurable and concrete way.
How to obtain WfCP certification
The WfCP scheme is designed so that wineries are assessed on the improvement of the four areas of action described above, with a score from 0 to 100 for each area. A minimum score of 200 points, with a minimum of 50 points in each area, is required to achieve initial certification.
Once certified, EQA will carry out an annual follow-up verification of the certified organisations, which is not compulsory for those wineries that have a certified ISO 14001 or EMAS environmental management system.
On a biennial basis, EQA will carry out the renewal verification, after which a new certificate will be issued with a 2-year validity.
